Lawsuit Alleges Catastrophic Injuries from Carnival Excursion, Citing Spiked Drinks, Negligence

Brais Law Firm and Scolaro, P.A. have filed an Amended Complaint and Jury Demand against Carnival Corporation, Pearl Investment Management Group, Ltd., and Sun Cay, Ltd. The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, concerns a devastating incident on May 12, 2025, during a “Pearl Island Beach Escape with Lunch” Carnival Adventure excursion in Nassau, Bahamas. The plaintiff, Hannah Smith, a 22-year-old college graduate, allegedly sustained severe, life-altering injuries following a series of events outlined in the complaint.

According to the Amended Complaint, Carnival’s “hand-selected” shoreside contractors allegedly plied Ms. Smith and her companions with “copious and unsafe amounts of alcohol,” including coerced “liter pours” of alcohol mixed with a drug. Unaware her drinks were spiked, she became severely impaired. Later, during the return ferry trip, Ms. Smith, allegedly directed by a crewmember to “use the water” for a restroom, entered the water from the ferry’s aft platform. The ferry captain then allegedly engaged the engine, causing the propeller to violently suck her in, resulting in immediate traumatic amputation of her left leg and catastrophic injuries to her right leg, ultimately requiring multiple amputations.

Ms. Smith endured over 25 surgeries and medical costs exceeding ten million dollars, facing permanent bilateral lower-extremity loss and lifelong consequences. The complaint alleges Carnival deleted negative reviews and ignored prior complaints of extreme alcohol overservice and unsafe practices on this excursion. Her legal team is actively seeking witnesses with information regarding these alleged practices prior to May 12, 2025, emphasizing the pursuit of justice and accountability for passengers.
