This initiative significantly addresses unseen food insecurity in affluent Douglas County by providing accessible, high-quality meals. It fosters community well-being, supports vulnerable populations, and sets a model for local, dignified aid, highlighting how community-driven efforts can bridge critical gaps in social support.
Sunday Salmon, a dedicated nonprofit restaurant, proudly announces the launch of Wednesday Wheels, a new initiative delivering no-cost, organic, and allergen-sensitive meals across Douglas County, Colorado. Commencing its soft launch on May 27th, 2026, the program aims to combat food insecurity and support residents facing transportation barriers, medical hardships, or financial instability. Chef-prepared meals are currently reaching senior living complexes and adults with disabilities, ensuring nourishment with dignity.
A full public launch is set for early July 2026, enabling Castle Rock residents to place online orders for pickup or direct home delivery for those with mobility challenges. This addresses a critical, often unseen, need: approximately 19,600 Douglas County residents, including many seniors, face food insecurity. Wednesday Wheels upholds Sunday Salmon’s commitment to organic, gluten-free, seed-oil-free meals, prepared with respect and no eligibility requirements.
The program's success is bolstered by generous contributions from local organizations like Black Hills Energy, Ent Credit Union, CORE Electric Cooperative, and the Town of Castle Rock, alongside dedicated individual donors. Sunday Salmon encourages community support through donations at Donorbox or by volunteering at SundaySalmon.com, fostering a healthier Douglas County.
